FACULTY OF BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCES

The Faculty of Behavioral Sciences (FBS) was formally established as an independent entity in 2014 with the Department of Clinical Psychology. In 2017, the Department of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology (ASLP) was added. The RCI approved M. Phil Clinical Psychology course was introduced in 2017. A number of RCI approved courses - Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology, Bachelor of Audiology, Speech Language & Pathology (BAS&LP), B.Ed (Hearing Impairment and Intellectual Disability) D.Ed (Hearing Impairment, Intellectual Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorders) have been introduced from the academic session 2019-20. Since the inception of the faculty, Ph.D in Clinical Psychology/Psychology was introduced in the specialized and applied areas of Psychology.

The faculty has latest infrastructure equipped with state-of-the-art lecture rooms, laboratory with psychological experiments and testing facility, library facilities and affiliation with OPD/IPD of Psychiatry department. The vision of the faculty is to produce high quality Psychologists for the Nation and global communities; to make significant contributions to the science and practice of psychology in real-life situations; and to produce professionals with sound ethical, legal and moral values.

  • The faculty embraces participatory, experiential, discursive and student-centric practices in its teaching-learning endeavors. The following are hallmarks of our teaching approach:
  • Project Based Learning/Dissertation/Case Study presentations/Student’s seminars
  • Regular Field Visits/Field Training/Practicum
  • Robust Organizational Interface with Mental Health Organizations and Experts
  • Role Plays, SIS, Group Discussion, Problem Based Learning and Invited Lectures
  • Critical Evaluation and monitoring of Teacher’s Quality through periodical assessment.
  • Summative Assessment based on multimodal pedagogy
  • Organization of lectures, conference/ seminar/workshops, symposia, etc.
 

Since the SGT University has a major focus on health and health related disciplines, the FBS is an integral part of all the community programs run by the University in nearby villages with a special responsibility for the mental health component. It provides a good exposure to the students of real-life settings and more so, sensitivity of the needs of the rural areas, which usually remain outside the mainstream of educational and service provisions.
