World Suicide Prevention Day on 10th September 2016
Faculty of Behavioural Sciences conducted a program in lieu of World Suicide Prevention day on 10th September 2016. On the occasion, Department of Clinical Psychology invited distinguished speaker Prof. Nimesh G. Desai, Director, Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences, Dilshad Garden, Delhi, for a talk on suicide prevention in auditorium, Medical Science Building at 2:00 P.M. Dean, FBS, Prof. Waheeda Khan, invited the speaker on stage and welcomed him with memento. Dr. Desai, stressed upon the importance of awareness for people who need help in terms of intervention for being at risk. He talked about the relevance of the topic as suicide is the most common cause of death for people aged 15-24 years and according to WHO nearly 8 lakh people die by suicide each year. He also talked about how to identify the risk of suicide and various strategies to prevent it and intervention strategies like helpline for suicide prevention. He emphasized the importance of professional assistance in helping suicidal clients. Students attended the lecture with keen interest and asked many questions from the speaker after the lecture. Participation of students showed their enthusiasm to learn and educate themselves.
