World Mental Health Day-2021

To mark the beginning of this three day event Dean Students Welfare, SGTU flagged off the 140 students ‘Awareness Rally’ for the Kaliyawas village.  ‘Mansik Swasthaya Shivir’- a Mental Health Camp also organized at village Chopal. Mental Health survey conducted in the village by Clinical psychology department. On subsequent day ‘Awareness Rally’ for Youth in university campus and ‘School Mental Health Camp’ in the Government Senior Secondary School, of Chandu-Budhera village organized.

As a unique initiative during this event, ‘Mental Health Pledge’ was designed by students of FBSC. This pledge was taken by approximately 1000 university students and officials. In this process students were sensitized about early warning signs of mental health issues. A Street Play was also performed by students of Department of Audiology, Speech and Language Pathology in this event. Professor Sham Lal Singhla- Advisor SGT University appreciated that and motivated the students for their campaign.

The final day of the event started with exhibition cum assessment plan for the university students. In the exhibition,  eight stalls were placed with the themes of know your mental health, know your intelligence, know your personality, know your happiness, know your hearing level, know your voice and how to protect your hearing. During the exhibition, large number of students of various faculty visited the stalls. An emotional overwhelming ‘Dance drama’ were performed on stage in closing ceremony by students. The drama intensively highlighted the role of mental health services in promotion of mental wellbeing. It also highlighted the stigma about mental health in society.

The campaign left its digital imprint by releasing the Special Issue of student’s magazine ‘Scripting’ on Mental Health. A special video of ‘Message on mental health’ also released. It emphasized the impact of Covid-19 on the mental health of different sections of society especially child mental health, economic weaker section and education in general.  In the closing ceremony of the event Prof. N.S. Tung, Pro Vice-Chancellor, SGT University, Prof. Rajbir Singh, Dean, Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, Prof. Waheeda Khan and Prof. N.K Chandel from Department of Clinical Psychology addressed the students. Professor Tung highlighted the need of psychologist at the time of the pandemic. Overall, the event was a great success as the organizers were able to aware all sections of the society about mental health
