International Day of Happiness

On March 21st, 2022, the Department of Clinical Psychology, Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, SGTU, Gurugram, and PSYCA, an academic association of the Department hosted an event to commemorate International Day of Happiness. Dr. Pratibha Anand Singh, Director and Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Kasturba Institute of Psychology and Behavioural Medicine, and Mr. Amaresh Yogi, Founder of Inner Spirit of Life, were the speakers at the event.

Ms Aastha Dhingra, Advisor, PSYCA, opened the event with a welcome salutation, discussing the importance of happiness in our daily lives and how it may help people flourish.

Prof. (Dr.) Waheeda Khan, Advisor, FBS;  Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Chandel, Associate Dean, FBS and Dr. Vikas Sharma, HOD, FBS elucidated to the audience about the efficacy of simple and thoughtful living and reminded us that being happy is a human right and worth celebrating.

Following that, the students of FBSC put on enthusiastic and upbeat dancing performances. We invited the first resource person, the renowned Mr. Amaresh Yogi, well-known life coach and yoga instructor who was crowned Urban Clap’s most likeable coach in 2017, for his session on “Laughter Yoga” shortly after the dance performance. It was a one-of-a-kind session, with nonstop laughter and a fantastic experience. Soon after this enjoyable activity, a competition called “DMDDMC2DMMHD” was conducted, with the goal of making the audience and judges laugh in under two minutes.

We had a special recognition of a student named Tanisha Kohli, a first-year Clinical Psychology student, who made cupcakes with a smiley for the professors and guests. The judges, Prof. (Dr.) NK Chandel and Dr. Sushil Manav, Dean, Faculty of Mass Communication, declared the winners and distributed the prizes.

Following the prize-distribution ceremony, Dr. Pratibha Anand Singh gave a presentation on “Forgiveness: A Source of Happiness.” She spoke eloquently about how to be happy while being forgiving at the same time.

The display of the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences’ recent release of Scripting, the departmental magazine, was also inaugurated, and the entire team was introduced.

Ms. Aastha Dhingra, Assistant Professor and Advisor, PSYCA, FBS, SGTU, concluded the occasion with a formal vote of thanks.
